22 September 2024- Ambassador Ezzedin Tago joined the eight (8) other Heads of Missions of ASEAN countries represented in Egypt to talk to young political science students of the Badr University in Cairo (BUC).
The Heads of Missions (HOMs) first met with university officials including Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mohamed El-Shihy, President of BUC. Thereafter, a short presentation was shared with the students introducing the ASEAN, its history and guiding principles. The students asked questions about what makes the ASEAN a strong regional organization. Each of the HOMs emphasized that it took more than 50 years for the organization to get where it is today, and that the member states have been open for dialogue and cooperation, as well as prioritizing peaceful resolution of conflicts. Amb. Tago also stressed that each ASEAN nation continues to observe respect of each other’s sovereignty, non-interference, and observance of the rule of law.
The event, called a “brown bag session” provided an opportunity for the ASEAN missions to discuss with Egyptian universities the Association of South East Asian Nations or ASEAN which brings together Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam under one Charter. Under the ASEAN Charter, the ten nations unite to build one ASEAN Community working together to enhance political, economic and socio-cultural relations. END
