PHILIPPINE EMBASSY VISITS BIBLIOTHECA ALEXANDRINA

07 September 2024- The Philippine Embassy led by Amb. Ezzedin Tago visited the Bibliotheca Alexandrina as part of its cultural immersion initiatives. Mr. Peter Peskales and Ms. Nourane Ashraf of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina guided the Embassy officers and staff around the library and the museum exhibits.

The highlight of the Embassy's tour was a visit to the bust of Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippine national hero, displayed within the library. Also included among the Bibliotheca’s collections are the original manuscripts of Rizal's “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo”, produced by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, as well as the publications “Lumina Pandit: A Collection of Historical Treasures and Conquistas de las Islas Filipinas 1565-1615” which were donated by the Embassy to the Bibliotheca on 25 June 2015. This homage to Dr. Rizal not only signifies the Philippines' rich cultural heritage but also symbolizes the enduring friendship between the two nations.

Bibliotheca Alexandrina is a modern tribute to the ancient Library of Alexandria. The library, renowned for its vast collection, boasts over 8 million books and resources in 80 languages, available on-site and some online. END
