21 June 2024-The Philippine Embassy held a Town hall meeting and Independence Day gathering for the Filipino community in Egypt.
There were around 170 members of the Filipino community who attended the event.
Philippine Ambassador to Egypt, Amb. Ezzedin Tago, delivered the opening remarks thanking the attendees for their participation. He stated that the occasion is not only a commemoration of the declaration of Philippine Independence but also a moment to reaffirm our commitment to nationhood. In his speech, Amb. Tago also highlighted the importance of registering with the Philippine Embassy and being updated with consular requirements and Egyptian regulations.
The Independence Day video messages of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo were also played.
Thereafter, Mr. Bryan B. Fernandez, Third Secretary and Vice Consul, briefed the attendees on updates on the Embassy’s services. He also provided a background of the Marcos Administration’s Bagong Pilipinas campaign. The campaign seeks to unify the Philippine government and society institutions towards the attainment of policy reforms and economic recovery.
During the program, there were performances from volunteer members of the Filipino Community Chorale, Zamalek Maadi Group and solo numbers by Ms. Kim Sowter, Ms. Judith Montaño and Ms. Joanah Bellen Abarquez.
Finally, Ms. Crystal Ann S. Dunuan, Third Secretary and Vice Consul, closed the program by reiterating the Embassy’s call to all Filipinos in Egypt and its jurisdictions to register online, and to be updated with the Philippine and Egyptian governments’ regulations.
Since the start of the online registration in 2021, the Embassy was able to count 2139 Filipinos in Egypt.-END
